Assistant Professor-tenure track position, 9 month contract

The primary responsibility will be to teach forensic investigation undergraduate courses in Crime Scene Processing Techniques, Evidence Collection and Preservation, Investigative Photography, Fingerprint Classification and Development, and Introduction to Crime Scene Investigation. The typical teaching load is twelve credits per semester.  Applicants will also be expected to participate in scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students, and participate in department, college, university and public service.

 

Qualifications: 

A Masters degree in Forensic Sciences/Criminalistics is required for a tenure track appointment; a Ph.D. in Forensic Sciences, Criminalistics, or closely related discipline is preferred. (A J.D. law degree is not appropriate for this position.) A Masters degree in criminal justice or related discipline will be considered for employment at the level of Instructor, for a one-year appointment with the possibility of annual renewal. In addition to the education requirement, applicants must possess a minimum of 2 years of teaching in higher education, and a minimum of 3 years of experience within a crime lab, crime scene response unit, or other applicable forensic investigation-related employment. Experience and specialization within crime scene investigation, death investigation and investigative photography are preferred.

 

Applicant must provide a separate statement describing a history of working with or demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and/or other issues of historic marginalization. A willingness to collaborate with both students and faculty, and become involve in university service, is essential.  It is expected that the candidate remain professionally active in the criminal justice community. We are primarily interested in hiring outstanding teachers who will be an asset to the Department and the University.

 

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in oral and written communications.  In addition he or she must have observable enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom and ability to work in teams in a collegial environment. The applicant may be required to teach courses through alternative delivery methods. Applicants must respond to all required qualifications to be considered.

The Criminal Justice Department is placed within the College of Liberal Arts and Education, has 9 full-time tenure track positions, and regularly employs an additional 5 academic staff and 1 administrative assistant.  The department offers a B.S. in Forensic Investigation or a B.S. in Criminal justice, as well as offering online undergraduate and graduate degrees in Criminal Justice. Class sizes are approximately 30 students.
