Crime Lab Manager

The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory, an aggressive promoter of quality and efficiency in forensics, is seeking a Crime Laboratory Manager.

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:  manages the purchasing process for the laboratory, compiles financial statistics and reports related to the Crime Lab’s budget and spending for each unit within the Crime Lab, identifies and applies for federal and state monies to supplement annual budget, manages all aspects of statewide, multi-agency grant spending to include applications, reporting, and accountability with grant requirements, coordinates with consultants and/or conducts business process analysis for the purposes of identifying underperforming areas, or areas where increased efficiency could be gained, manages the preparation of an annual executive report on the entire operations and services of the laboratory, may prepare and distribute program updates within and outside the agency, may serve as Legislative liaison for State Police Crime Laboratory.

Extensive knowledge in laboratory operations, business operations, and in numerous areas of state and federal government policies and regulations is required to effectively manage these components.

Qualifications: 

A baccalaureate degree in chemistry, biology, zoology, biochemistry, microbiology, medical technology, criminalistics, forensic science, toxicology, or pharmacology plus seven years of professional level laboratory experience, six years of which must have been at the journeyman level or above.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

Advanced degree and/or extensive experience in business or management processes.  Experience managing purchasing processes, budgets, consultant and vendor coordination and knowledge of IT project implementation.
