Applications are invited for the post of Fingerprint Supervisor. Working under the direction of the OIC Forensic Support Unit, you will be accountable for all aspects of fingerprint work, including the search of crime scenes prints against fingerprint collection, supervision and training of staff. The Fingerprint Supervisor will also be required to give expert evidence in a court of law. The post holder will also be responsible for facilitating the maintenance of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) repairs and replacement solutions, using the professional services within Information Management Service (IMS) Department within the Bermuda Police Service.

Duties include but are not limited to:

 • Works with Forensic Investigator Officers to investigate crime scenes and documents all identification made from all crime scene marks.

 • Oversees the operations of the Fingerprint Unit, plans and organizes work.

• Takes the fingerprints and photographs of all prisoners prior to them being bailed or upon conviction and makes identification by comparing fingerprints.

• Prepares statements and fingerprint comparison charts for presentation in court.

• Provides accurate expert testimony at all levels of the Bermuda Court System.

Qualifications: 

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree within a relevant discipline such as Forensic Science or Applied Chemistry from an accredited Institution. Applicants must also have passed an Advance Fingerprint Course Certification and must be on a National Register of Qualified Fingerprint Experts (i.e. UK, Canada or the US). Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience within a recognized Police Bureau.

The successful applicant must be competent in the use of automated fingerprint identification systems, be available for call-out duties and be willing to work evenings and weekends as required and be in a position to obtain a driver’s license.
