MicroLab Diagnostics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zygem Corporation, is a growing biotech company with labs in Charlottesville, VA and Hamilton, New Zealand. This position will support the development of an automated sample to STR profile microfluidic device for human identification. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, troubleshoot complex problems, and communicate with engineers and other scientists to resolve issues. Must be able to design experiments, record lab notes, and create reports from data sets. Candidate should be comfortable working on novel instrumentation and creating SOPs for other users. Education: Candidates must have a minimum of a BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or closely related major. Preference will be given to candidates with a MS or PhD. Experience: Prefer candidates with experience performing PCR amplification and analysis with Promega and LTI STR chemistries for human identification. Experience operating thermal cyclers, AB 7500, and AB CE instruments is desirable. Experience troubleshooting instrument/reagents problems, writing SOPs, performing validations, and maintaining laboratory equipment is highly desirable. Computer Skills: Must be able to create spreadsheets and analyze data in Excel and create presentations in PowerPoint.
