The Chief Medical Examiner serves as the Director of the Medical Examiner Department and oversees a staff of 30 persons, including four staff associate medical examiners and a forensic pathology fellow, toxicologists, investigators, autopsy technicians, and clerical staff. The Medical Examiner Department is a teaching affiliate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, and applicants must be eligible for faculty appointment. Responsibilities include performance of autopsies; testimony in court; supervision of budget, personnel, and operations; teaching; and oversight of the training program in forensic pathology.
