Forensic Specialist I - DNA Lab

Montgomery County Department of Police, Rockville, MD

Employee in this position will be responsible for assisting Biology Unit Scientists in analyzing biological and DNR casework samples using chemical, microscopic, robotic, and instrumental techniques, conducting quality assurance/quality control activities, calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment, ordering and inventory control, independent operations of the three robotic workstations, maintenance of documentation and case records, and potential court testimony as to procedures and analyses conducted.

Preferred Criteria:
1. Experience working in an ISO accredited forensic or DNA laboratory

2. Experience with open platform liquid handling robotic platforms/instruments.

3. Experience handling minute biological samples and practicing contamination prevention techniques.

4. Experience conducting quality assurance/quality control activities, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: One (1) year of full time experience involving the detection, collection, testing/analysis, and maintenance of the chain of custody and security of crime scene physical evidence and latent prints.
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
