  • Perform forensic examinations, including identification of blood and other body fluids; analysis of a range of samples typically encountered in forensic case work using the Applied Biosystem’s® Capillary instruments with Identifiler™, Minifiler™, and Yfiler™ chemistry; realtime PCR;
  • Conduct comparisons of genetic material;
  • Prepare reports of findings and submit the results into appropriate computer database;
  • Communicate with military personnel on testing procedures, results, and conclusions;
  • Conduct procedures in accordance with the specified guidelines of an ASCLD/LAB Internationally accredited agency lab;
  • Instruct officials on evidence collection and the proper handling of evidence; and
  • Assist the Team Leader in establishing validated protocols and the set up of the new laboratory facility to meet the ASCLD/LAB International standards.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, forensic science, or related scientific field and three (3) years of related experience;
  • Have taken college courses (graduate or undergraduate level) in genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology (molecular genetics or recombinant DNA technology), as well as course work and/or training in statistics and population genetics as applied to forensic DNA analysis;
  • Have documented training in forensic DNA PCR-based STR analysis;
  • Experience in forensic serology;
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and QA/QC procedures;
  • Intermediate level competency in PhotoShop and Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
  • Able to obtain a US Secret Clearance; and
  • Able to meet the following physical demands:
    • Lift 70 lbs. to a working height of 48 inches
    • General office and laboratory duties/functions.
