Forensic Scientist I - Biology/DNA

The Johnson County Crime Laboratory, a division of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, is seeking a qualified applicant for a position in our Biology Section. This is a grant funded position. The major duties of this position include the performance of physical, chemical, biochemical tests and DNA analysis methods on biological material associated with evidence. The duties also include evaluating the nature, origin and significance of physical evidence both in the laboratory and at crime scenes, maintaining laboratory records, preparing written technical reports of analysis, and providing effective expert testimony in courts of law.

 

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or forensic science related area. The candidate must have completed a minimum of 9 semester or equivalent credit hours of course work covering the subject areas of biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology.  In addition, coursework or training in statistics and/or population genetics as it applies to forensic DNA analysis is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants that have previous experience in forensic Biology/DNA analysis and/or an advanced degree in science. The applicant will be required to successfully complete a Biology/DNA training program and a qualifying test before beginning independent casework responsibilities.
