Criminalist Specialist - FIREARMS

Houston Police Department Crime Lab

Perform firearms case examinations with little or no direct supervision.  Assist section operations by conducting secondary analysis, and reviews of other examiners’ cases. Provide assistance to officers or D.A. investigators that come to the laboratory or need assistance by phone. Testify in courts of law regarding analyses performed.  Respond to call outs outside of normal business hours.  Because the applicant may be responsible for supervising others in the section, a demonstrated ability to manage strong emotions, avoid conflict, and work well with others is essential.

 MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline.  Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Criminalistics, Biology, Physics or a closely related field.

 MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Three years of experience in a forensic laboratory as a criminalist are required.
