SENIOR FORENSIC SCIENTIST BIOLOGY-(SEROLOGY/DNA)

This is a senior-level classification, but the position may be underfilled. Individuals working in this job description are recognized as scientific discipline leaders and are expected to make significant technical contributions to the lab, champion new ideas, build strong internal and external networks, and mentor and develop junior staff. Incumbents perform a full range of scientific analysis of various materials and substances, conduct quality control and quality assurance practices, and testify in court as an expert witness. May provide functional or technical supervision, publish test results in science journals, supervise daily operations of satellite (field) laboratories and coordinate intern scheduling, training and rotation. May supervise major training programs, oversee certification-testing programs, and conduct research and planning in support of laboratory projects and goals. Scientists working in the Dept. of Public Safety Bureau of Forensic Services must have ASCLD/LAB (American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board) certification in two or more forensic disciplines and pass annual proficiency tests. 

Applicants must have a bachelor's or an advanced degree from an accredited institution in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-, related area and must have successfully complete course work totaling at least nine cumulative semester hours in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and course work or training in statistics and/or population genetics.
