Identifies, collects, preserves, packages, and presents biological evidence, latent fingerprints, tire impressions, shoe impressions, tool marks, and other physical evidence, provides support to crime scene investigations through blood spatter analysis, crime scene reconstruction analysis, ballistic and trajectory analysis and other specialized techniques that require detailed technical knowledge and training; o Familiarity with the general operation of a variety of shotguns, rifles, handguns, knives, and other miscellaneous weapons; o Photographs/videotapes evidence at crime scenes; o Performs measurements of evidence at crime scenes using a variety of manual, electronic, and computerized measuring devices; o Conducts processing of evidence in the laboratory using special powders, chemical solutions, forensic light sources, and various camera lenses and filters in order to develop and preserve evidence; o Proficient use of general and specialized hand and power tools; o Attends autopsies to photograph/videotape injuries and collect additional evidence; o Writes departmental reports and supplements; o Documents evidence for submission to the Property Management Bureau for storage; o Maintains proper chain of custody on evidence and proper packaging to preserve and prevent contamination; o Testifies in court as a witness in connection to the scenes processed and evidence recovered and preserved; o Participates in structured training programs; o Inputs data or information into a terminal, PC, or other multi-media devices; o Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turn-around times, streamline work processes, work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service; o Resolves problems encountered during daily operations; o Performs other related duties as assigned by direct Supervisors; o Performs work following ISO 17025 standards, including standard operating procedures and quality assurance manual guidelines.

Guidelines, Difficulty and Decision Making Level: Work assignments are generally unstructured and the employee is responsible for performing a variety of functions to achieve the objectives of the unit. Duties performed, involve weighing and evaluating factors requiring judgment, analytical ability, and problem solving.. Level of Supervision Received and Quality Review:Under technical and administrative supervision, the employee has personal accountability for carrying out an assigned function, program, or project within the scope of duties and responsibilities. The employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of work, as directed by Crime Scene Supervisory personnel. Completed work is reviewed for soundness, judgment, conclusions drawn, adequacy of examinations, and conformance to standard operating procedures, quality assurance standards and procedures, and Denver Police Department Policies. Interpersonal Communications and Purpose: Negotiation and resolution of routine and non-routine problems with use of discretion, judgment, and specialized knowledge are required for these classes. Level of Supervision Exercised: Crime Scene Analyst reports to Crime Scene SupervisorThis class does not directly supervise other employees but may review work and assist in the training of entry level Crime Scene Investigators.
