Job responsibilities include the normal microscopic comparison of firearms evidence, toolmark comparisons, distance determinations, serial number restorations, function tests, court testimony, and training law enforcement personnel. This position does NOT involve GSR (primer residues) analyses, footwear/tiretrack comparisons, or crime scene processing. Normal working hours are 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday with no “On-call,” however, there is the possibility of working flexible hours including nine hour days to have a day off every other week.

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Laboratory has an immediate opening for an experienced, court qualified firearms examiner. The laboratory is accredited under the ASCLD/LAB International (ISO) assessment as of November 2010. The laboratory serves approximately 43 police agencies in a region of about 1 million people including the city of Cincinnati. The examiner will join a staff of two other firearms examiners and one Trainee. The examiner will be required to comply with safety, quality control, and other administrative criteria of the ASCLD/LAB accreditation program.
