Dear Prospective Veterinary Science Applicant:

I would like to acquaint you with the benefits of membership/affiliation in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.  You may obtain the requirements for each AAFS section, apply online or print a hard copy of the application off our website at http://www.aafs.org/membership

Below is a summary of the benefits extended to our members/affiliates:

● subscription to the highly acclaimed Journal of Forensic Sciences;
● bi-monthly newsletter featuring news of interest, job announcements,
   and upcoming meetings;
● reduced rate for AAFS annual meeting attendance;
● information services – job referrals, bibliographies, literature
   searches; and
● the opportunity to join the world's top forensic scientists in a
   wide variety of professional disciplines.

As a practing veterinarian or veterinarian technician, I would recommend that you review the requirements for both the General Section and Pathology/Biology Section.  You do not need to be a full time forensic veterinarian, however, you must be actively engaged in the field of forensic science.  For those interested in the Pathology/Biology Section, you must also be actively engaged in veterinary pathology, pathology, forensic medicine or other biological science at the time of application.

 The application fee is $25 and must be paid in US dollars. The deadline to have your application reviewed at the 65th AAFS Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC is October 1,  2012.  Please submit your application as early as possible.  This gives us ample time to review your application and contact you if you are missing any documentation or information.

Please remember that all sections on your application must be completed with the information requested or n/a; if you only write, “see attached c.v.” or “see attached,” your application will be returned for completion.

Applications are officially approved at the AAFS Annual Meeting held every February.  If your application is accepted at the 2013 AAFS Annual Scientific Meeting, you will receive a formal notification letter and 2013 dues invoice in March.

Please feel free to contact me at chunter@aafs.org should you have any questions or if you would like to discuss your options.  I would be happy to discuss your application and to answer your questions.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Hunter
