Dear Colleagues;
On Friday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a call for applications for the National Commission on Forensic Science being established in the DOJ and run jointly by the DOJ and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The announcement from DOJ regarding the establishment of the Commission is included below, and the link to the Federal Register announcement can be found here: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-02-22/pdf/2013-04140.pdf.
The AAFS Board strongly encourages applications from qualified individuals to represent our profession in this leadership organization. The AAFS Board intends to send a letter to DOJ, supporting the applications of qualified AAFS Fellows who are applying. The offer is limited to Fellows and Retired Fellows of AAFS, in recognition of their seniority in the profession, and service to the Academy.
If you are a Fellow or Retired Fellow of AAFS and wish your name to be considered for inclusion in this letter, please forward your name, a brief statement of interest (<250 words), and CV to me by March 13th, 2013 at barry.logan@nmslabs.com. The names will be reviewed by the AAFS Public Relations Committee who will prepare the letter. You will still be required to submit your application personally to the DOJ, but will receive a copy of the letter submitted to DOJ by the AAFS.
Regards,
BKL
