Academic Press Sponsors YFSF Essay Contest

Academic Press (AP), a Harcourt Science and Technology Company, is pleased to announce sponsorship of the 2000 Young Forensic Scientists Forum Essay Contest. The topic of the essay is "The Role of the Forensic Scientist in the New Millennium." The winner will receive a set of AP’s Encyclopedia of Forensic Sciences, a $925 value, presented by the Editor-in-Chief of the work, Jay Siegel, at the Young Forensic Scientists Forum Breakfast Meeting at the American Academy of Forensic Science (AAFS) Annual Meeting in Reno, Nevada, February, 2000.

Interested students are asked to apply the topic to their field of study within forensic science. The deadline for the contest is October 31, 1999. All entries must be postmarked by that date or they will not be accepted. Essays must be limited to 2000 words, or two printed pages. Entrants must be a graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in forensic science or a related field of study. Entrants must also be a student member or trainee affiliate member of the AAFS. No less than three established members of the forensic science community and the AAFS will serve as judges for the essay contest.
The winner of the essay contest will receive a copy of the three-volume Encyclopedia of Forensic Sciences, the largest comprehensive reference source of current knowledge ever made available in the field of forensic science. More than 200 articles will cover the core theories, methods and techniques employed by forensic scientists. as well as their application in forensic analysis. Led by Editor-in-Chief Jay A. Siegel, School of Criminal Justice, Michigan State University, and Editors Pekka J. Saukko, University of Turku, Finland, and Geoffrey C. Knupfer, National Training Center Scientific Support to Crime Investigation, County Durham, U.K., the Encyclopedia features a distinguished international group of contributors representing 19 countries. Scheduled to publish in June, 2000, the Encyclopedia will be a definitive source of information in both print and electronic formats.
