Expectations and Realities for Forensic Science Employment II
By Sheila Estacio

After the first successful run of the discussion panel at the 2001 Annual Meeting, "Expectations and Realities..." returns to the 2002 meeting in Atlanta. The upcoming
panel discussion will follow the YFSF Special Session on Tuesday, February 12, from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

The panel will again be divided into four groups with representatives from students in forensic science and non-forensic science programs, forensic academic programs, lab directors, and new forensic scientists.
The upcoming discussion panel will have the same focus as last year and will also touch upon some of the following topics:

• What do private forensic science laboratories look for when hiring?

• The differences in working in a private versus a county/city/state laboratory

• Moving directly into academics and research after graduation versus diving into casework

• Crossing over into academia after working in forensic science

Start thinking of what you would like to ask the panel members in February! If you have any more suggestions please contact Sheila Estacio by e-mail: virtutek1@yahoo.com, or by phone: (212) 447-2618.
