Chicago Special Session
by Claire Shepard, MS, Special Session Co-Chair

If you are a student planning a career in the field of forensic science, a young professional just starting your career in forensic science, or someone who has just made a career change, the 2003 YFSF Special Session is for you. This year there is a great lineup of speakers and presenters that range from the president of the Academy, to a famous published author, to the recipient of the Emerging Forensic Scientist Award.

Be sure to check the box next to the YFSF Special Session in order to be a part of a session developed by young forensic scientists who are striving to make the field a better place for the future forensic scientists. In this session you will be a part of many presentations, including:

• Kathy Reichs, best-selling author and AAFS member discussing Forensic Anthropology
• AAFS President Graham Jones, discussing the current pressures and stresses in forensic
  science
• Marie Samples, Criminalistics Section Chairperson, presenting avenues for AAFS
involvement for the new forensic scientist
• Eric Greenberg and Chris Gojcz, two young professionals discussing how they got started
in their careers, the challenges they faced, and offering advice
• An Open Forum/Panel Discussion, giving you the chance to ask any question you might
have for a speaker, a YFSF coordinator, or fellow session attendee
• A Mock Trial with distinguished attorneys and expert witnesses
• A presentation and discussion about the World Trade Center Disaster

Also, the much-anticipated Interview and Resume Workshop will be offered following the Special Session. You will have a chance to get tips on resume writing, correcting an existing resume, and hear from the people on hiring committees regarding interview procedures and techniques. So bring your resume with you to Chicago to have it reviewed and critiqued before you send it out! It will be a very exciting and informative meeting and we hope to see you there.
