Expectations and Realities for Forensic Employment II
By Sheila Estacio, BA, Special Projects Committee

After the first successful run of the discussion panel at the 2001 Annual Meeting, "Expectations and Realities for Forensic Science Employment" returns to Atlanta in 2002. The upcoming panel discussion will follow the YFSF Special Session on February 12, 2002, from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

The panel will again be divided into four groups with representatives from students in forensic science and non-forensic science programs, forensic academic programs, lab directors, and new forensic scientists.

The upcoming discussion panel will have the same focus as last year and will also touch upon some of the following topics:

• What do private forensic science laboratories look for
when hiring?

• Contrasts in working in a private versus a county/city/state
laboratory

• Moving directly into academics and research after graduation
versus diving into casework

• Crossing over into academia after working in forensic science

Start thinking of what you would like to ask the panel members. If you have any more suggestions or would like to participate in the panel, please call (212) 447-2618, or e-mail virtutek1@yahoo.com.
