YFSF Special Session - Chicago 2003 - September 2002

by Sheila Estacio, BA, and Claire Shepard, MS, Special Session Co-Chairs

Planning for the YFSF Special Session in Chicago has been underway since the end of the Atlanta special session. In Chicago, look forward to a session that will still focus on the emerging new and young forensic scientist and address topics such as establishing a career in forensic science, becoming involved in the Academy, and the theme of the 2003 meeting—terrorism.

Kathy Reichs, well-known writer of Grave Secrets and Deja Dead, will be speaking about forensic anthropology. Marie Samples, Criminalistics Section Chairman, will be speaking about membership in the Academy, including the necessary requirements and timelines for upgrading membership. Two young forensic scientists from the DEA and FBI will talk about their positions and how they play a role in the fight against terrorism. In addition, there will be a mini-multidisciplinary session on the World Trade Center Disaster. The recovery efforts of the World Trade Center Disaster requires the efforts of the forensic pathologists, anthropologists, odontologists, DNA specialists, and members of various law enforcement agencies. This presentation will give a condensed overview of the efforts of these multidisciplines from recovery to the future of recovery. We look forward to seeing you in the Windy City!
