YFSF Special Session Update |
| Here we are, about six months until the 2004 Academy Meeting in Dallas, and all of the speakers for the Young Forensic Scientists Forum have been confirmed. This year's theme is “The Road Less Traveled, Non-Traditional Career Paths in Forensic Science." AAFS President
Kenneth Melson will traditionally begin the session, followed by Jose
Almirall, Chairman of the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission, who will be providing an update on how things are going with the AAFS educational initiative. The academic session is chock full of speakers from different disciplines within the Academy with
Kenneth Furton from Florida International University talking about his research with detector dogs. Jeffery Comparin from the DEA's Special Testing and Research Laboratory will reveal the DEA's premiere research laboratory. Gordon Angus of from the Miami-Dade Police Department will speak about forensic computing and
Steven Batterman will be speaking about forensic engineering. Ronald Singer
will give a lively talk about life at the Medical Examiner's Office in Tarrant County, TX - the host state for the 2004 meeting.
Jason Byrd will be speaking about forensic entomology and Kenneth Goddard will be speaking about wildlife forensics. The 4th Annual Emerging Forensic Scientist winner,
Joseph Hefner, is going to speak about his work on the utility of nonmetric cranial traits in ancestry determination. Howard Cash, President, CEO, and founder of GeneCodes, Inc., a bioinformatics firm specializing in DNA sequencing and analysis, will talk about the company and their ongoing work for the victims and families of 9/11. And to end an information packed day, look forward to "Posters and Cocktails" following the special session. More details to come…
