Young Forensic Scientists Forum Newsletter - November 1998

Editor's Notes
by Carrie Weiler, BA

The Young Forensic Scientists Forum (YFSF) has had an exciting couple of months. From the response received to the July 1998 YFSF Newsletter, it appears that the YFSF efforts are long overdue. E-mails were received from students and professionals from both the U.S. and abroad, ranging from offers to write articles for the YFSF Newsletter, to suggestions for re-naming the YFSF, to the idea of incorporating an international focus into the YFSF mission. I was truly overwhelmed with the feedback and want to thank everyone who took the time to respond. I hope that the YFSF Newsletter can continue to deliver the information you need.

In this issue, the 1999 AAFS Annual Meeting in Orlando is addressed, including information on the YFSF's Special Session and breakfast meeting. Focusing on career and education issues in forensic science, the YFSF Special Session is designed specifically to help students and new forensic scientists. The YFSF breakfast meeting is a great way to meet other scientists in an informal setting and to voice concerns or comments about important issues. The YFSF hopes you can attend.

In this issue you will also find student award opportunities, an article focusing on forensic engineering and YFSF Chairperson Patricia Manzolillo sharing her first experience as an expert witness. Special thanks is extended to those who contributed. If you have something you would like published in the YFSF Newsletter, including award announcements, articles or commentary, please send submissions to Carrie by e-mail: cmweiler@ eskimo.com, or by fax: (206) 731-8555. I hope you enjoy this issue!
