Internship Survey Update
by Carrie Weiler, YFSF Secretary

I wish I could announce that we have had an enormous success with the YFSF Internship/Mentorship Survey held at the AAFS Annual Meeting in February 1999. Unfortunately, this was the one and only disappointment of our Orlando activities. We only received a few responses to our survey either on site or in the mail following the meetings. Although we only gathered information on a few internships we are not giving up hope! We have decided to persevere and change our strategy.

Rather than attempting to create a database of internship and mentorship opportunities across the USA, which was our initial goal, the Internship Committee is developing strategies to help students find the internships they want and get accepted into those positions. These strategies will include recommendations for writing that perfect CV or resume, where to look for internship opportunities and interview strategies. We hope to make this information available via our Web site and regular newsletter articles.

Those internships that we did receive information about will most likely appear on our Web site in the near future. (We are just awaiting approval from these agencies to put the information on the Web) We sincerely appreciate those individuals who took the time to respond to our survey and those agencies willing to give young forensic scientists the chance to gain valuable experience.
