The Forensic Chemistry Center (FCC) is FDA's only laboratory dedicated to the forensic analysis of FDA regulated products. FCC's staff consists of talented analytical scientists who excel at creative thinking and problem solving. FCC contributes to FDA's mission to protect public health by performing forensic sample analysis, method development for emerging and novel problems, evaluation of new analytical technologies for regulatory analysis, and analytical response for public health emergencies. FCC is accredited by ANAB for Forensic Testing and is in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
FCC has openings for analytical scientists and a Quality Systems Specialist. Analytical scientists will be assigned to work in a specialty area of the lab, one of which may be the Trace Evidence Section. This Section provides specialized analytical services in forensic chemistry related to product tampering, counterfeiting, and adulteration. The tools employed by analysts in this unit include light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, image analysis, variable wavelength light source analysis, and Raman and near-infrared spectroscopy and imaging.
The Quality Systems Specialist will preferably have experience working in an accredited laboratory and can assist with review/update of standard operating procedures, internal audits, and continuous improvement efforts. Because FCC’s work is unique amongst forensic testing laboratories, we require a quality professional who can help us comply with accreditation requirements while maintaining the unique capabilities that our customers require.
