Deputy Chief Medical Examiner – Forensic Pathologist

The Deputy Chief Medical Examiner assists the Medical Examiner with the management and operations of the office, acts on behalf of the Chief Medical Examiner and assumes the duties of the Chief Medical Examiner in their absence and as delegated.

  • Collaborative, friendly 25 member staff comprised of four teams: Investigations, Technical, Administrative and Pathology.
  • Annual office caseload estimated at 850+ autopsy equivalents.
  • Conduct forensic postmortem examination.
  • Expected caseload up to 250 autopsy equivalents. In-house access to academic literature.
  • Office-paid license renewal, Continuing Certification, CME and funds to attend national meetings.


Minimum Qualifications
Certified as a forensic pathologist by the American Board of Pathology (ABP). If ABP
certification is time-limited, must participate in the American Board of Pathology Continuing Certification in Forensic Pathology. Two years of forensic pathology experience beyond forensic pathology fellowship. 

Preferred Qualifications 
Board-certified forensic pathologist with experience managing people, processes, and quality improvement/quality assurance efforts. 

Licenses or Certifications
Licensed as a Physician and Surgeon by the State of Washington. If not currently licensed by the State of Washington, Licensure must be obtained prior to the start of employment.


$256,189.69 - $321,751.15 Annually

Salary package includes generous benefits, vacation accrual, partial relocation reimbursement and no state income tax.
