Responsibilities

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is seeking board certified qualified individuals to fill Deputy Medical Examiners positions and is encouraging fellows to apply. As of July 2022, the BCMEO will have 9 positions for board-certified forensic pathologists, in addition to our highly qualified ABMDI certified investigators, autopsy assistants, clerical personnel and an ABFT accredited full-service postmortem toxicology laboratory. The office also boasts an ACGME accredited forensic pathology fellowship program. This National Association of Medical Examiners accredited office is located in the beautiful, vibrant city of San Antonio, Texas which serves a population of 2.3 million people and is currently the 8th largest city in the United States. San Antonio is the most visited city in Texas every year and is home to a richly immersed culture, eclectic culinary choices, Fiesta (an annual 10-day festival that salutes the heroes of the battles of the Alamo), the famous Riverwalk, the San Antonio Spurs, San Antonio FC, and, of course, The Alamo. Duties include performing medicolegal death investigations and postmortem examinations; testifying in legal proceedings; and teaching fellows, residents and medical students. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is located on the campus of UT-Health San Antonio, a Tier-1 Medical School and research institution, with a full medical library and a host of consultants available on-site.

Qualifications

Candidates must have Board Certification in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, or the ability to obtain Board Certification within two years of hire, and a current and active Texas Medical License.
