Speckin Forensics is looking for a candidate to independently conduct forensic examinations in the areas of firearm and tool mark identification in our Lansing, Michigan, OR Fort Lauderdale, FL office. While remote work is sometimes possible, proximity to one of these offices is preferred. Travel between the MI and FL offices will be normal, but travel may occur throughout the US on occasion. Examinations will include microscopic comparisons of evidence and known specimens for the purpose of identification, microscopic processing of evidence, testing firearms for proper function and safety, and possible restoration of obliterated serial numbers. Selected candidate will be required to attend court and/or depositions to testify on occasion. The Firearms & Toolmark Investigator will conduct forensic examinations to identify and classify firearms of evidentiary value.
They will also conduct forensic examinations to identify and classify ammunition types of evidentiary value.
This position is expected to maintain a high degree of knowledge of different firearms and ammunition. Also, to test firearms for functional capacity by discharging firearm into a water recovery tank and/or trap. Conduct examinations while maintaining chain of custody and formulating interpretation results for forensic and/or intelligence exploitation.
Preference is given to those with additional experience in crime scene analysis and interpretation. Must have completed training, minimum of 5 years experience including testimony and qualification as an Expert Witness in the past. Certification as a qualified firearms and toolmark examiner as stipulated by the Association of Firearms and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE) is preferred.
$75 to $120 per hour
