Responsibilities

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a forensic anthropologist. This position would ideally begin with the spring term (January 1, 2023), but is negotiable.

We seek an anatomically trained scientist who will contribute to our growing undergraduate and graduate (MA) programs in forensic anthropology. Primary duties will be to teach introductory and advanced level courses in forensic science and forensic anthropology. Additional teaching duties include courses such as skeletal biology, osteology, bioarchaeology, dental anthropology, anatomy, introduction to biological anthropology, and a forensic field school.

An active research program is not required. However, preference will be given to the candidate who can augment the department’s strength in evolutionary anthropology.

Strong practical skills in forensic anthropology are desirable, specifically to be applied towards forensic casework and field work activities in the context of student mentorship.

The ideal candidate will also strengthen links with colleagues in other units such as those in the Medical School, the College of Dentistry, and/or the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences.

This is a renewable, non-tenure track position with an initial contract of 1 - 3 years, depending on prior experience. Rank is open and determined by experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD in Anthropology, Forensic Science, or equivalent discipline. Demonstrated excellence in teaching required. The candidate will be able to offer a range of classes in forensic anthropology at introductory and advanced levels and to oversee forensic projects. Ability to teach courses such as introduction to biological anthropology, osteology, skeletal biology, dental anthropology, and/or anatomy is desirable. Field and casework experience in forensic science contexts are highly desirable.

Compensation

$60,000/Annually + Benefits
