Forensic Scientist

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in RTI’s Justice Practice Area in the Center for Forensic Science Advancement and Application alongside a team of dedicated researchers, innovation advisors, and subject matter experts.
  • Develop effective written and visual products, including but not limited to publicly disseminated reports, guides, presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and outreach media that support evidence-based practices within the forensic sciences and criminal justice communities of practice.
  • Contribute to a broad range of client deliverables such as technical reports, presentations, working groups, and publications.
  • Conduct research using secondary resources (published company information, scholarly journals, trade literature, and news articles), as well as primary resources (interviews).
  • Leverage technology partners in the forensic sciences to perform evaluations which may inform policy recommendations.
  • Maintain a strong client-centered focus and explore opportunities for innovation including identifying existing and new technologies for evaluation and translation.

Contribute to the development of proposals and proposal ideas that are linked to addressing improvements in forensic science.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s level degree in a related discipline in the natural sciences plus a minimum of 5 years of related work experience; or a master’s level degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 2-year related work experience.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication (comfortable in conducting primary research), time management, and analytical skills
  • Team-centric thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in typical computer applications such as the MS Office Suite, including Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (up to10% of time) for site-based work and conferences.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment Visa status.


Hiring Salary Range: $64,000 - $78,000
