Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the DNA section’s quality assurance program is within the I-MCFSA Laboratory Quality Assurance Manual guidelines and in compliance with the Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories.
  • Evaluates and approves all methods currently employed by the DNA section and propose new or modified analytical procedures for potential applications.
  • Oversees and approves all validations of new or modified methods used by the laboratory.
  • Solves technical problems related to analytical methods and ensures that corrective action is taken and documented when appropriate.
  • Oversee the training program for new DNA analysts, and analysts requiring retraining and approve their qualifications prior to independent casework analysis.
  • Review quality assurance and quality control documentation to include proficiency testing, court testimony monitoring, and audit records.
  • Acts as the technical authority in handling DNA casework issues or analyst disagreements.
  • Performs forensic casework and provides court testimony.

Qualifications

Education requirements: Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic science-related area, and completed 12 semesters in equivalent credit hours from a combination of undergraduate and graduate coursework covering biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics or population genetics.

Experience requirements: Three (3) years of human DNA experience as a qualified analyst on database or forensic samples. Five (5) to seven (7) years of human DNA experience as a qualified analyst is preferred.

Other requirements: Has successfully completed or will successfully complete the FBI’s DNA auditor training course within one year of appointment. Experience in probabilistic genotyping software is preferred.

$77,388.49 - $99,057.26
