Medical Examiner
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform autopsies, head posts, and external examinations; provide medical records reviews for cases completed as Medical Examiner Sign-outs; conduct pathological and toxicological analyses; confer and coordinate with death investigators and law enforcement; determine the cause of death and the manner of death; write thorough reports effectively conveying his/her/their findings and opinions; have good communication skills in order to discuss cases with family members, law enforcement, and attorneys; and provide court testimony.
Qualifications
The minimum requirements for this position are:
- Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada at the time of appointment
- Completion of an anatomic pathology residency in an accredited program
- Completion of a forensic pathology fellowship in an accredited program
- Eligibility or certification in anatomic and in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology
License/Certificate Requirements:
- Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada at the time of appointment
- Valid Nevada Class C Driver’s license at the time of appointment
- Certification in anatomic and in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology
- When eligible for board certification at the time of appointment, she/he/they must complete all board certifications within two years of hire date and maintenance of certification must be continued throughout employment.
Compensation
$197,931.00 - $306,793.00 depending on experience and certification(s)
