Toxicology Forensic Scientist Supervisor

Position will help supervise state-wide drug testing program in a forensic lab. Manages employee training and development as will as instrumental method development and validation. Incumbent will provide interpretation of results, review casework, assist in troubleshooting of lab equipment. Incumbent must provide expert testimony in a court of law as needed. Manage up to 5 line staff. Identify and advocate for training opportunities for incumbent and staff. Help manage controlled substance inventory and ordering. Help manage laboratory consumables, budget, and stock levels. Contribute to laboratory workflow improvement.


Ideal Candidate: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or closely related field and six years’ experience within a laboratory setting, at least one of which is supervisory. Experience with Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry. Experience providing testimony in court of law. Experience mentoring and training new scientists.

Minimum Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or in Biology or Forensic Science which must include a minimum of 20 credit hours of chemistry coursework.

This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. In state and out of state travel may be required. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.


$33.06 - $52.89 Hourly
$68,760 - $110,016 Annually

This position is a Pay Band 85
