Responsibilities

Buffkin / Baker, an executive search firm, has been retained to assist Columbia College in the search for Open Rank Professor/ Forensic Science Program Coordinator (Coordinator). The College seeks a qualified individual for this full-time position who will support the B.S. Forensic Science degree program and serve as lead-faculty and coordinator of the program. Teaching, professional development, and service are required aspects of the position. The opportunity to design new innovative specialty courses and curriculum also exists with this position’s responsibilities. The Forensic Science program at Columbia College is housed within the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the School of Arts and Sciences. In addition to Forensic Science, the Department also offers degrees in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science, as well as Mathematics and Computer Science. The Department has 14 full-time faculty who are supported by a full-time Laboratory Manager and a part-time laboratory coordinator and is housed in a modern, fully equipped facility. 

The immersive Forensic Science program goes far beyond police work, bringing together the disciplines of biology, chemistry, criminal justice and law to prepare students to lead in this exciting and fast-growing field. Students learn hands-on applications of scientific principles, as well as the ins and outs of related professions like law, criminal justice, and communications. Columbia College’s industry-leading curriculum advances students’ knowledge of forensic science and opens doors to many career options. The experts in the College’s well-respected, cross-disciplinary program help students build skills and real-world experience for work in a crime laboratory as well as in the field. Some of the specialty areas students can focus on include physical evidence, DNA, toxicology, latent prints, and questioned documents. The successful candidate will possess a PhD in Forensic Science or a Natural Science discipline with preferably three years of experience as a Forensic Scientist. A master’s in forensic science with a strong preference for at least five years professional experience in a forensic laboratory is required if the individual does not possess a PhD. Professional expert witness experience is desired, and prior teaching and student mentoring and advising experience is strongly preferred. Compensation
