Forensic DNA Analyst/ Technician
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include planning and performing forensic tests on evidence in DNA analysis, calibrating instruments used for forensic DNA analysis, evaluating/ interpreting results of forensic tests and calibrations performed, preparing and validating reagents, and inventorying and ordering supplies.
Qualifications
Applicants may be hired into the technician position prior to promotion into an analyst position depending on experience and education. Applicants must possess the necessary degree and course work qualifications required for a Forensic DNA Analyst by the Federal Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA testing labs for promotion into an analyst position. “Minimum educational requirements: the analyst shall have a bachelor’s (or its equivalent) or an advanced degree in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-, related area and shall have successfully completed course work (graduate or undergraduate level) covering the following subject areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics and/or population genetics as it applies to forensic DNA analysis.”
Compensation
Starting salary : approximately $45,000-$70,000 (depending on degree and experience)
