Responsibilities

In anticipation of two upcoming vacancies, the Districts 5 & 24 Medical Examiner’s Office is seeking applicants for consideration for the position of Forensic Investigator. The Office is a free-standing, N.A.M.E. accredited, facility currently based in Leesburg, Florida, that investigates deaths in a six county jurisdiction. The office is in the process of building a new facility to be located in Summerfield, Florida. This is a private agency that contracts with the counties that it serves. The position involves all aspects of medico-legal death investigation. The Forensic Investigators working in this office are responsible for a wide variety of death investigation duties, including responding to and conducting scene investigations, obtaining critical information, preparing detailed written reports, scene documentation, scene photography and screening cases for Medical Examiner jurisdiction. The Forensic Investigators interact with multiple law enforcement agencies, hospitals, government agencies, attorneys, funeral homes, families of the deceased and the general public.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have a background in forensic science, biology, or closely related field. Prior investigative experience in a Medical Examiner’s Office and proficiency in medical terminology preferred. Qualified applicants must have a good driving record, pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks, and be able to lift 150 lbs. The position requires the ability to handle stressful situations, strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills, initiative, independent judgment and decision making abilities. Basic computer skills are also a requirement. This is a full time, non-exempt position with a rotating schedule of four-ten hours days inclusive of nights, weekends and holidays.

Compensation
