Responsibilities
The Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research has an immediate full time opening for either a Deputy Medical Examiner or an Associate Medical Examiner. The successful candidates will assist in the operation and administration of the Medical Examiner’s Office, in Valhalla, NY. In 1991 the Westchester County Forensic Science Laboratory became the first full-service forensic laboratory in the northeast to gain accreditation by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors – Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) International.

Program Facts:
Location:
- Central Westchester, Adjacent to Westchester Medical Center (a Level 1 Trauma Center).
- 30 Minutes to Midtown Manhattan
- Three Full-Time Pathologists on a Rotating Schedule
- Full Staff: 6 Medical Examiner Investigators, 1 Histologist, and 5 Autopsy Assistants
Work Demand:
- Average of 1 autopsy per day for a population of 1 million
- 900 Medical Examiner’s Cases Annually
- ~20 Homicide Cases Annually
- Affiliation with New York Medical College & Academic Appointment Available
On-Site Resources:
- Divisions of Forensic Sciences, Forensic Toxicology, Microbiology, & Environmental Services
- 4 Division Directors On-Site for Consultation and Support. Forensic Sciences – DNA Analysis, Trace Evidence Analysis, Arson Analysis
- Forensic Toxicology – Analysis for Drugs, Alcohol, & Toxic Compounds
- 24x7 Medical Examiner Investigator Coverage who attend Death Scenes
- Public Safety Firearm Examiner and Criminalistics Lab on Campus
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Conducts medicolegal death investigations, supervises and performs autopsies, diagnoses injuries and pathological conditions, and prepares reports of findings.
- Determines and certifies the cause and manner of death.
- Gives expert testimony in courts of law and other legal proceedings
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Successful candidates will possess a license to practice medicine in NY State;
- Graduation from an approved medical school;
- Valid NY State Driver’s license;
- Board Eligibility or Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology with special qualifications in Forensic Pathology.

Compensation
Salary Range: $150,000 - $250,000
