Medical Examiner
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- perform autopsies, head posts, and external examinations;
- provide medical records reviews for cases completed as Medical Examiner Sign-outs;
- conduct pathological and toxicological analyses;
- confer and coordinate with death investigators and law enforcement;
- determine the cause of death and the manner of death;
- write thorough reports effectively conveying his/her/their findings and opinions;
- have good communication skills in order to discuss cases with family members, law enforcement, and attorneys; and
- provide court testimony.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The minimum requirements for this position are: Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada at the time of appointment, completion of an anatomic pathology residency in an accredited program, completion of a forensic pathology fellowship in an accredited program, and eligibility or certification in anatomic and in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
- Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada at the time of appointment
- Valid Nevada Class C Driver’s license at the time of appointment
- Certification in anatomic and in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology
- When eligible for board certification at the time of appointment, she/he/they must complete all board certifications within two years of hire date and maintenance of certification must be continued throughout employment.
Compensation
COMPENSATION The annual salary range for this position is $212,035.20 - $328,660.80, depending on experience and certification(s).
