Responsibilities

Non Tenure Track, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Global Forensic and Justice Center (GFJC) at FIU invites applications to fill a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position. The position requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Forensic Science, experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and laboratory experience in forensic chemistry and/or toxicology. Approximately 50% of the job duties will entail developing and teaching coursework and workshops in forensic chemistry and toxicology and lower division chemistry courses, coordination of laboratory courses, and supervision of teaching assistants. Along with teaching courses in a traditional face-to-face format, the development of online/hybrid course offerings is expected. The remaining 50% of the job duties will include management of the FIU/GFJC Forensic and Analytical Toxicology Facility (FATF). FATF is a university recharge laboratory serving FIU and outside researchers and specializing in mass spectrometry-based analysis of drugs, environmental contaminants, and other chemicals in human specimens.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D./Doctorate in chemistry, forensic science, or related field. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in developing and teaching in-person and on-line undergraduate and graduate lecture courses in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, forensic chemistry, and/or forensic toxicology. 
  • Experience in developing and teaching in-person and on-line undergraduate and graduate laboratory courses and workshops in forensic chemistry and/or forensic toxicology. 
  • Peer reviewed publication record in the forensic sciences. 
  • Training of undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory techniques and instrumentation relevant to forensic science, with a focus on sample preparation and mass spectrometric analysis. 
  • Experience in overseeing a mass spectrometry laboratory facility in forensic chemistry/toxicology, including maintenance of instrumentation, budget management, QA/QC procedures, and interaction with clients.
