What is a Presidential Ad Hoc Committee?
AAFS Presidential Ad Hoc committees are temporary, purpose-driven committees established by the Academy President to address specific emerging issues, strategic priorities, or timely opportunities within the forensic science field. Unlike standing committees with ongoing mandates, ad hoc committees are created to tackle particular challenges or initiatives that require focused attention and specialized expertise. While each incoming President has the authority to form new ad hoc committees based on their vision and the profession's evolving needs, many choose to continue the work of their predecessors' committees when their missions remain relevant and impactful. This flexible structure allows the Academy to remain responsive to the dynamic landscape of forensic science while ensuring important initiatives receive the sustained attention needed to achieve meaningful outcomes.
