Responsibilities
Forensic Pathologist Wanted: Private Practice. Professional Autonomy. Meaningful Work.
- Performs autopsies on cases referred to by the Justices of the peace in the local jurisdictions (EXCLUDES LUBBOCK COUNTY)
- Studies the cause and manner of death and prepares reports of findings.
- Performs microscopic examination of tissue specimens to diagnose and determine diseases present when needed.
- Conducts toxicological studies.
- Directs, coordinates and supervises all technical activities related to the performance of post-mortem examinations.
- Testifies as an expert medical witness at criminal and court proceedings to provide documented, impartial evidence, fees paid to employee, not company.
- Documents and maintains records of all autopsy findings.
Qualifications
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
At Time of Application:
- Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine; and
- Successful completion of, or current enrollment in, an accredited Fellowship in Forensic Pathology (successful completion of an accredited Fellowship in Forensic Pathology is required prior to appointment).
LICENSE:
At Time of Application:
- Certification in Anatomic Pathology or Combined Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
At Time of Hire:
- License to practice medicine in the State of Texas; and
- Board certification or board eligibility for certification in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology (certification in Forensic Pathology will be obtained within one year from the date of hire and must be maintained on a current basis thereafter.)
Compensation
- SALARY: $325,000
- FULL TIME POSITION (WITH PART TIME HOURS)*
- MONDAY-FRIDAY WITH MAJOR HOLIDAYS OFF
- RELOCATION EXPENSES (UP TO $10,000)
- 80 HOURS VACATION PER YEAR
- 40 HOURS SICK LEAVE PER YEAR
- EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT FOR MAINTENANCE OF MEDICAL LICENSE
- PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP ALLOWANCE
- MEDICAL COVERAGE WITH CONTRIBUTION (DENTAL AND VISION OPTIONAL)
- SUPPLEMENTAL COVERAGE AVAILABLE
*PERFORM AUTOPSIES IN THE MORNING, CAN WORK REMOTLEY IN THE AFTERNOON HOURS NOT DOCUMENTED AS LONG AS CASES ARE SIGNED OUT.
