AAFS Now Accepting Applications for Spring 2026 Membership Cycle
Spring application deadline is April 1, 2026
The American Academy of Forensic Sciences is now accepting applications for the Spring 2026 membership cycle. Forensic science professionals, researchers, educators, and students with a demonstrated interest in the field are encouraged to apply before the April 1, 2026 deadline.
AAFS membership represents more than an organizational affiliation — it is a mark of professional commitment to advancing forensic science with integrity and rigor. Members gain access to one of the most distinguished networks in the discipline, spanning 12 specialized forensic science sections and practitioners across more than 70 countries.
What Membership Offers
Among the most valued benefits of AAFS membership is complimentary digital access to the Journal of Forensic Sciences, the Academy's internationally recognized, peer-reviewed publication and a $433 annual value. Members also receive deeply discounted registration to the AAFS Annual Scientific Conference, the premier forensic science gathering in the world, where thousands of practitioners and researchers convene each year for presentations, workshops, and cross-disciplinary exchange.
Financial support is another significant draw. Through the Forensic Sciences Foundation and AAFS programs, members can apply for the $140,000 in annual grants, scholarships, and awards offered — many of which are available exclusively to Academy members.
Additional member benefits include free and discounted access to AAFS-hosted webinars and educational resources, mentorship programs, committee and leadership opportunities, and access to job postings and expert witness referral networks. New members receive one month of complimentary therapy through BetterHelp, a recognition of the demanding and consequential nature of forensic work.
Who Should Apply
AAFS membership is open to individuals across the full spectrum of forensic science disciplines. Applicants select the section that best aligns with their background — from Criminalistics and Digital & Multimedia Sciences to Forensic Pathology/Biology, Questioned Documents, Toxicology, and more — and choose an entry-level status appropriate to their current academic or professional stage, including Student Affiliate, Trainee Affiliate, or Associate Member. Those whose background does not align with a specific section may be eligible for the Professional Affiliate status.
How to Apply
Full application details, including section-by-section requirements and required documentation, are available at aafs.org/membership/application-information. Applicants should log into or create an account at accounts.aafs.org, navigate to the Membership Application Portal, and submit all required materials, including a CV and references, no later than April 1, 2026.
Questions about the application process can be directed to Membership Coordinator Cheryl Hunter at chunter@aafs.org or 719-453-1033.
