Anthropology Section News—Nominations Deadline Extended

Source: Teresa Wilson, PhD, Section Secretary

The deadline for nominations has been extended to allow additional interested individuals to apply. Note that ALL membership levels are able to serve on our Section Committees.

After receiving and reviewing our Section budget for the 2024 conference, I'm concerned about our ability to continue providing student awards and enjoying the Section reception at the level we have become accustomed to in past years. Our annual allocation covers most of our conference needs, but the awards and receptions rely on generating extra funds through workshops and donations. Please consider donating to our Section by clicking HERE and designating your donation as "Reception" or "D&I" in the dedication area

We should also be forward thinking when it comes to this issue, so I am calling for self-nominations for a new ad hoc fundraising committee. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please email me (lathamke@uindy.edu) a one-paragraph self-nomination explaining your desire to serve/contextualizing what you would bring to the table. These will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee, who will rank applicants and finalize committee membership. The deadline for self-nomination emails is Friday, July 22.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
This ad hoc committee will meet to discuss ways to generate funds for our Section awards and Section reception. A desired outcome of this committee's work would be ideas to generate funds for the 2024 and 2025 annual conferences that are allowed by and in line with the Academy's policies on fundraising. It is likely this committee will extend past my time as Chair as we will have the need to keep finding ways to financially support our Section.

Thank you in advance for your interest! I'm looking forward to reviewing your self-nominations.
