Call for Abstracts, Workshops, and Special Session Proposals

The AAFS Toxicology Section Program Committee invites the submission of scientific abstracts, workshop proposals, and special session concepts for the 2027 AAFS Annual Scientific Conference in Orlando, FL.

We encourage submissions from practitioners, researchers, educators, students, laboratory managers, medical examiners, coroners, law enforcement professionals, and industry partners that advance the science and practice of forensic toxicology.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Drugs and Driving
  • Cannabis and Novel Cannabinoids
  • Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS)
  • Postmortem Toxicology
  • Analytical Method Development and Validation
  • Emerging Drug Trends
  • Oral Fluid Testing
  • Hair and Alternative Matrices
  • Alcohol Testing (Breath and Blood)
  • Workplace and Clinical Forensic Toxicology
  • Toxicological Interpretation
  • Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Robotics in Toxicology
  • Drug-Facilitated Crimes

Joint and Multidisciplinary Opportunities

The Toxicology Program Committee is actively exploring multidisciplinary programming opportunities with other AAFS sections. We particularly welcome proposals suitable for:

  • Joint Toxicology–Criminalistics sessions involving emerging analytical technologies, seized drug trends, NPS identification, and standards development.
  • Joint Toxicology–Pathology/Biology sessions involving overdose deaths, postmortem redistribution, interpretation of toxicological findings, forensic epidemiology, and medicolegal death investigation.
  • Pediatric Toxicology programming in collaboration with the Pathology/Biology Section, including pediatric fatalities, prenatal exposure, child endangerment, poisoning investigations, and toxicological interpretation in children.

If you have an idea that may fit a multidisciplinary format, please indicate this during submission or contact the Toxicology Program Committee.

Workshop Proposals

We are also seeking proposals for workshops, panel discussions, and other special sessions that provide practical, educational, and cutting-edge content for attendees. Interactive formats, case-based discussions, and collaborative sessions across disciplines are strongly encouraged.

Important Deadline

Abstract, workshop, and special session proposals must be submitted by: August 1, 2026.

We encourage submissions from both established professionals and emerging forensic scientists.

We look forward to showcasing the outstanding work being conducted throughout the forensic toxicology community and hope to see you in Orlando.
