The FSF International Association of Forensic Sciences (IAFS) Scholarship—November 15 IAFS Abstract Submission Deadline

PURPOSE: The International Association of Forensic Sciences (IAFS) is an international organization dedicated to uniting academics, managers, researchers, and scientists from around the world to discuss and debate key issues in forensic science. The IAFS states its goals as follows: "​. . . to develop forensic sciences; to assist forensic scientists and others to exchange scientific and technical information; and to organize triennial meetings."

To support participation in this important global event, the Forensic Sciences Foundation (FSF) is offering one scholarship to help defray the costs of attending the 24th IAFS Triennial Meeting, which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from May 25–30, 2026. This scholarship provides a unique opportunity for an AAFS member to experience this valuable educational and professional development event.

AWARD: The recipient will receive up to $5,000 to reimburse the costs of airfare, registration, housing, and per diem of $75 for five nights while in attendance at the meeting.

CRITERIA TO ENTER:

  • You must be a current Associate Member, Member, or Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS).
  • You must never have attended an IAFS meeting.
  • In order to be considered, you must first submit an abstract for a podium presentation at the 2026 IAFS meeting by November 15, 2025.  For more information on the IAFS abstract submission process, go to:  https://iafs2026.com/abstracts/.
  • Within five days of receiving the IAFS acceptance notification, the following items must be emailed to AAFS Meetings Manager Ashley Derden at aderden@aafs.org.
  • Cover letter advising of: (1) your AAFS membership status, (2) previous IAFS meeting attendance, and (3) brief statement (500 words or fewer) describing how attending the IAFS meeting will benefit your professional development and contribute to the forensic science community.

SELECTION PROCESS: The FSF IAFS Scholarship Committee will review submissions.  Abstracts will be judged on their technical merit, innovation, and impact to the community.  All scholarship applicants will be notified of the outcome no later than March 1, 2026.
