Opportunity to Engage in Public-Facing Science Communication

For the past two federal appropriations cycles, instability in federal funding for scientific research in the United States has necessitated tireless advocacy by scientists and science policy professionals. Missing from this equation is the public. Democratic engagement fueled by broad public awareness of ongoing research is necessary for the long-term sustainability of research funding. The Scientist Network for Advancing Policy (SNAP) began the work to address the lack of communication between scientists and the public last year with the highly successful McClintock Letters Initiative, which enabled the publication of over 200 pieces about ongoing scientific research in local newspapers across more than 45 states. Now, we're developing a project to continue and cement the ethos of this work. 

SNAP is establishing a network of scientists interested in being featured in local media and digital science communication content. These scientists will receive training on communicating their latest research advances with engaging storytelling.
