Remembering Jo Ann Given, MS

AAFS Criminalistics Section Retired Fellow Jo Ann Given, MS, passed away on June 18, after a battle with cancer. 

Jo​ was employed by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) from 1981 until 2006 and was the director of the NCIS Regional Forensic Laboratory in Norfolk from its opening until it closed. 

Jo was the second woman president of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) in 1989, and one of the original old guard. She helped  formulate the standards, regulations, and basis for the present ASCLD. She was an inspector for the accrediting body, ASCLD/LAB, and contributed as a member to numerous forensic organizations, including the AAFS.

Jo was an effective administrator with a quiet voice of reason. She will be missed.
