Responsibilities

The Department of Forensic Science at Loyola University Maryland (LUM) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position as an Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2026. We are looking for a candidate committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education at a dynamic liberal arts university. We seek outstanding candidates who demonstrate the ability to develop and teach new and existing undergraduate and graduate courses in content areas relevant to our two undergraduate programs in forensic science (BS and BA) and two graduate programs (MS) in Biological Forensics and Forensic Pattern Analysis. The successful candidate is also expected to develop a research program with the potential for extramural funding and that involves undergraduate and graduate students. Preference will be given to candidates whose research addresses questions in pattern evidence. 

The successful candidate will teach 2 upper-level undergraduate/graduate courses per year in Pattern Analysis, Criminalistics, QA/QC, Questioned Documents, Crime Scene Investigation, Mock Trail, or Topics in Pattern Evidence, contribute to introductory courses in forensic science and capstone courses for undergraduates and graduate students, and develop new courses in the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate should possess an awareness of and interest in high impact practices in line with the mission of Jesuit higher education. Faculty development opportunities are also available, including startup funds for establishing a research program. All members of the department participate in advising and mentoring of students, as well as engagement in other forms of departmental, university, and professional service.

Qualifications

Candidate's must have at least a MS in forensic science or closely related field to be considered for the position. Prior teaching experience is desired but not required. 

Successful candidates for any staff, faculty, or administrative position at Loyola University Maryland will be subject to a pre-employment background check.

Compensation

Compensation range: $80,000 to $85,000.
