Associate Medical Examiner

Responsibilities
- Conducts investigations into deaths without medical attendance, especially those suspected to be due to an external cause;
- Performs autopsies and related actions to determine the scientific cause and manner of death including gross examination, review of supplemental (toxicology and other laboratory) reports, microscopic slides (tissue findings), associated reports;
- Issues death certificates;
- Prepares complex, analytic reports of findings and activities for permanent record;
- Testifies at court trials, hearings and inquests as expert medical witness;
- Provides educational consultation to community groups as well as medical students, families, attorneys and others;
- Responds to emergencies such as mass fatality incidents and public health emergencies.
Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Doctor of Medicine degree, completion of a residency in pathology and a fellowship in forensic pathology.
Compensation
Salary: $168,684 - $233,499 annually
