Responsibilities
The University of New Haven seeks a seasoned administrator to assume the role of Dean of the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences (HCLC). This is an extraordinary opportunity for an innovative and collaborative leader to advance one of the nation’s most respected colleges in criminal justice, forensic science, national security, and public service education.
Enrolling approximately 1700 undergraduate and 700 graduate students, HCLC enjoys a national reputation as a leader of education in a variety of fields from forensics and criminal justice to fire science and emergency management. These comprehensive and highly ranked programs integrate theory and practice to best prepare students to be effective and successful in the constantly evolving areas of justice, safety, and security. HCLC’s programs have also been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its annual Best Colleges listings, and top employers for graduates include the FBI, the State of Connecticut, the Police Department for the City of New York, the Department of Justice, and LabCorp.
In joining the prestigious Henry C. Lee College, the Dean will have the opportunity to play a key role in shaping the College’s future—strengthening its academic programs, elevating its research and external partnerships, and enhancing its visibility and impact in a rapidly changing world. They will build upon the College’s longstanding eminence to further the mission of excellence in public service education. They will also continue to cultivate innovative new programs and focus on engaged experiential learning to prepare students for the ever-expanding, technologically dependent, and increasingly challenging world of public service.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and strategic academic leader with a deep commitment to student success, faculty excellence, and diversity and inclusion, as well as to the University’s mission to prepare students for purposeful and fulfilling lives in a global society. Excellent candidates should possess experience that is translatable to raising the College’s profile, setting a cohesive and ambitious vision for the institution, demonstrating strong financial stewardship, and exhibiting fundraising acumen. Candidates must have an earned doctorate and be eligible for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences. They should also possess an impressive research background, including grant-funded research.
The Dean is expected to start no later than July 1, 2026.
