Deputy Medical Examiner
Responsibilities
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is seeking board certified qualified individuals to fill an anticipated Deputy Medical Examiner vacancy for December 2025. The BCMEO currently has 9 board-certified forensic pathologists, one of whom is retiring at the end of the year. The Office also boasts a full-time Forensic Anthropologist, highly qualified ABMDI certified investigators, autopsy assistants, clerical personnel, family assistance specialists, evidence technicians and an ABFT accredited full-service postmortem toxicology laboratory in addition to our ACGME accredited forensic pathology fellowship program.
This National Association of Medical Examiners accredited office is located in the beautiful, vibrant city of San Antonio, Texas which serves a population of 2.3 million people and is currently the 8th largest city in the United States. San Antonio is the most visited city in Texas every year and is home to a richly immersive culture, eclectic culinary choices, Fiesta (an annual 10-day festival that salutes the heroes of the battles of the Alamo), the famous Riverwalk, the San Antonio Spurs, San Antonio FC, and, of course, The Alamo.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is located on the campus of UT-Health San Antonio, a Tier-1 Medical School and research institution, with a full medical library and a host of consultants available on-site.
Qualifications
Candidates must have Board Certification in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, or the ability to obtain Board Certification within two years of hire, and a current and active Texas Medical License. Duties include performing medicolegal death investigations and postmortem examinations; testifying in legal proceedings; and teaching fellows, residents and medical students.
Compensation
Salary range: $267,000 - $310,000 annually
Plus moving expense and workload incentive pay
