Medical Examiner

Clark County Coroner/Medical Examiner Office, Las Vegas, NV, US

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will: 

  • Perform autopsies, head posts, and external examinations.
  • Actively engaged in educating fellows, medical students, and other medical trainees.
  • Provide medical record reviews for cases.
  • Conduct pathological, histological, and toxicological analyses.
  • Confer and coordinate with death investigators and law enforcement.
  • Determine the cause of death and the manner of death.
  • Write thorough reports effectively conveying their findings and opinions.
  • Have good communication skills to discuss cases with family members, law enforcement, and attorneys.
  • Provide court testimony.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: Completion of a medical or osteopathic program and board-eligible or board-certified in anatomic pathology (AP) oranatomic/clinical pathology (AP/CP); must have either: 

  • One year of professional experience in a coroner or medical examiner’s office, or
  • Completion or current enrollment in an accredited forensic pathology fellowship. 

Licensure & Certification: 

  • Must have completed an AP residency and be enrolled in or have completed an accredited forensic pathology fellowship.
  • Must hold a Nevada medical license and be board-certified or eligible in AP or AP/CP and forensic pathology at the time of appointment.
  • Board certification must be obtained within two years if not already certified & maintained throughout employment.
  • Valid Nevada Class C driver’s license required at appointment.

Compensation

Annual Salary Range: $212,035.20 – $328,660.80 (based on experience and board certifications)
